TLDR: If each faction in at least a group of 3 is allied with all the other factions, then they can form a coalition which gives bonuses and drawbacks. The more specific the make-up of your coalition, the better the bonus.

note: Y just denotes unspecified amount
note: Also, I'm basically just pulling bonuses and detriments out of my ass

Allied factions can form a Coalition. Basically, a faction for factions.

Mechanic:

-One Faction Makes a Coalition thing ala Faction mechanics. Faction leaders can join the coalition but have to be allied all to each other eg A allied to B, B allied to C, C allied to A. Basically, you have to be allied to all the coalition's current members, and all the coalition members have to be allied to you, to join.

-Coalition page has accept/kick options for member faction coalitions for membership decisions. Majority vote passes.

-Faction Leaders can leave the coalition at any time.
-Setting Politics to neutral or hostile to a coalition member autokicks you from coalition and removes all bonuses the coalition gives to you and you give to the coalition.
-Coalition benefits and drawbacks do not apply until there are 3 coalition members.

Unaligned Coalitions:
(Can be allied with Good, Neutral, Evil, in whatever combination. Restricted or relaxed)

Benefits:
-Ward bash message and SH location message to all faction members of all the factions in the coalition when your SH ward is attacked/broken.
-Bonuses when on coalition infused tiles
Base: 5% search chance
PLUS
Good Faction: +Y% defence or soak
Neutral Faction: +5% search
Evil Faction: +Y damage or attack %
-Coalition members gain Y amount of renown when another coalition member retrieves their flag
-Each faction gets: (total number of infused coalition tiles x 0.1) additional Karma

Drawbacks:
-Coalition Upkeep: Applies to all faction members of all coalition members.
Normal SH Upkeep tick, apart and in addition to SH upkeep: (Total faction levels of all coalition members/No of coalition members) in MP + same amount in AP
Each faction also loses some renown per SH upkeep tick
- Stacking Honor Bonus for factions raiding a coalition member if the raiding faction has a flag in their SH [SH must be up for bonus to apply] of members of that coalition.
Honor gain: Regular Honor gain x (1 + [0.25 x Y number of coalition flags held])
-All Coalition Factions lose Y amount of Honor when a Coalition faction is capped
-You only get the infusion tile bonus if the infusing coalition SH is up, base 5% search bonus still applies.


Aligned Coalitions:
(member factions are only of one alignment, all good, all evil, all transcendent. Restricted or Relaxed.)

Benefits:
-Ward bash message and SH location message to all faction members of all the factions in the coalition when your SH ward is attacked/broken.
-Bonuses when on coalition infused tiles
Base: 5% search chance
PLUS
Good Faction: +1.5Y% defence or soak
Neutral Faction: +10% search
Evil Faction: +1.5Y damage or attack %
-Coalition members gain Y amount of renown when another coalition member retrieves their flag
-Each faction gets: (total number of infused coalition tiles x 0.25) additional Karma

Drawbacks:
-Coalition Upkeep: Applies to all faction members of all coalition members.
Normal SH Upkeep tick, apart and in addition to SH upkeep: (Total faction levels of all coalition members/No of coalition members) in MP + same amount in AP
Each faction also loses some renown per SH upkeep tick

Base: 5% search chance
PLUS
Good Faction: +3Y% defence or soak
Neutral Faction: +20% search
Evil Faction: +3Y damage or attack %
-Coalition members gain Y amount of renown when another coalition member retrieves their flag
-Each faction gets: (total number of infused coalition tiles x 1) additional Karma

Drawbacks:
-Coalition Upkeep: Applies to all faction members of all coalition members.
Normal SH Upkeep tick, apart and in addition to SH upkeep: (Total faction levels of all coalition members/No of coalition members) in MP + same amount in AP

Umm... I only skimmed, but I see you mention Infusion. That's going away.

The other thing I was looking for but wasn't seeing, is how would these suggestions impact alts in coalition factions? Seems like it might be too easy to alt-abuse...

Going forward in b5, we're planning to do something like this in that the three main sides will accumulate territory as coalitions instead of requiring every little faction to have infusers on hand for their own little fiefdom. There are some further nuances to this (None of the main sides are exactly one big happy family). I realize that doesn't fit the rest of what's discussed here, but infusion sharing at least is on the table.
