Maybe this is already in the B5 rework list and we just don't know.

Now that armor is more useful thanks to a few reworks, I was wondering if Clockwork Chestplates, Hazmat Suits, and other items that sound like armor would become armor in B5? We only have a few and they're mostly for mundane damage types after all.

I should note that this will require these items to be removed from players' inventories as a result of their armor-status, meaning people who were holding onto them would lose them and need to find them again. This might particularly be a problem is somebody has paid credits for an article of clothing that is now completely gone.

If the Clockwork Chestplate is armor, then what would the body clothing for clockwork stuff be? It seems like it would be more practical to make a new "Gothic Clockwork Plate" armor than to turn Clockwork Chestplate into an armor have make a new "open clockwork heart" as a new shirt clothing.

If we took this to the logical extreme, then any sort of cape/robe or anything woolen would give cold soak, Hazmat Suit/Gas Mask would give acid resist, and so on. And while I think that would be a neat game, it wouldn't quite be the "Fashion Clash" style of game we currently have. I think a lot of people would be upset at losing the clothing many people had spent months looking for, or in dropping a distinctive look to get the right sort of bonuses.

Everything gets removed from your inventory on a new Breath, so this change wouldn't do much.

Clothing remains in your inventory between breaths.

Well, I was wondering how bad it could be so I went to the credit shop and saw you could buy all clothes in the game, and also that there were some premium clothing items that really looked like armor.
I have no solution to this one so this suggestion may just be dead in the water.

We could definitely do with a greater variety of armour, although I think the existing light/medium split in terms of what you're allowed to wear was already a bad idea - I believe a combination of 10-12% defence and 12 soak of an element of choice is an OP'd option which makes heavy armour seem comparatively useless and has also made it take even less prep to roll summoners on the defensive and in the field. But that aside, a more varied selection of armour soaks would be cool. I think the best way to deal with the listed issue would just be to make them new armours which reference existing clothing items, and make the existing armours a bit more diverse.

But what's the point of having high soak on only one element? Most players would just switch their attack to something else.
I thought about it for a bit and figured it might be useful for attacking petwalls like 10 Death Soak while going up against a Lich, but eh. The Defense bonus on the other hand is global and probably what people will line up for.

The best thing you could get was Soak for your opposing element (Holy/Unholy) but that would require a odd, most likely impossible bargain with your opponent.

It could be useful for characters who have just one or two element holes in their innate armor. An IB would really just need cold soak, especially if characters try to target cold when they first see an IB.

Posting a random idea since it just struck me and I don't want to forget it, forgive me non-sequitur
What if (Active? Whirring? Whatever) Clockwork Armor dispelled a -Soak debuff you got, then went on cooldown for a AP tick or so?

10 Acid soak is pretty effective for helping to snipe wyrm masters

"There should be more armors of varying soaks" would be fine but I think the current set could use a pass first (barring changes probably present in B5). Currently, prioritizing impact is far better than anything else, slashing and piercing soaks are really only effective vs unfactioned people with hard access to enchanted gear. So police riot armor, and one of leather cuirass/fireman jacket is pretty much the best dual set if trying to be optimal.

Why impact?
I know Impact spells are the best, but that's not gonna be true next Breath. Even if that's not why you're looking for impact soak, it still cuts part of its usefulness.

that's why I put the caveat "barring changes in B5"

I don't know all the B5 leaks and I don't think it makes a lot of sense to suggest things for a complete overhaul of the game till we know what's in that complete overhaul

Impact is the best mundane damage type which is the most useful to soak against in B4. If you don't care about impact because of an innate, then you go chain shirt with 10 lighten/10 acid and FJacket/Lcuirass with 10 def

It doesn't make much sense to make suggestions for B4, since that's gonna be obsoleted... "Soon-ish". I can't really pull myself to make suggestions for it when they'd become useless anyways.

I think your string of suggestions would be a better thread in OOC as "what would you like to see in B5?", it's hard to comment on them without the context of what's actually in the game

There's something related to this planned, but it'd be a major spoiler on one of the few things we want to keep unspoiled.
