Engineering or structural engineering should give the option of constructing barricade walls like in NexusWar. Does anyone remember the RP fort? Cool

I think barricades were intentionally excluded.

I say, bring them back, just change their mechanics a little. Less HP, and add a decay. They were fun, and I don't think they were terribly over used.

I miss the 'cades, as well. Perhaps in NC there could be a six- to ten-wall limit to prevent the mazes and sealing off of an entire half of an island.

Further, perhaps there'd be a way to detect if a box becomes "closed" and one barricaded wall would disappear. I suspect that programming would be a PITA, though.
