Status Effect

Status Effects are temporary conditions which a character may acquire through various means. Status effects may be powerful (for example, Poison) or fairly innocuous (for example, Twitchy). They may be either beneficial or harmful to the character. Status Effects are usually acquired via the use of skills or items, or involuntarily by the actions of other characters.
Each status effect has a certain duration, which is measured in Status Ticks. They will wear off with a combination of actions on the part of the character, attacks on the character, and the passing of time.
Some status effects may be stacked. Such status effects may have their duration extended by using the ability which granted the effect repeatedly. Other status effects will have their duration reset if used more than once, or will simply fail to affect a character who already possesses the effect.
Also note that the results of performing Alchemical research might cause a random status effect from this list to affect your character.

Effect: The character is immune to (takes no damage from) attacks dealing the type of damage they have adapted to. In other words, a character with the Adapted to Death Status Effect will take no damage from Death attacks. A character can only have one Adapted to Status Effect active at a time -- being hit by an attack that causes a different damage type will cause the character to lose their old Status Effect and gain a new Adapted to Status Effect against the new damage type.
For example, a character with the Adapted to Death Status Effect is hit by Blood Claws. Because Blood Claws deal Unholy damage, the character loses their Adapted to Death Status Effect and gain the Adapted to Unholy Status Effect for 10 Status Ticks.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being hit by an attack that deals damage while the character has the skill Tattoo of Adaptation.
Agony Curse

Effect: While under the effect of this Status Effect, the character suffers a -15% to all attack rolls. In addition, the character takes extra damage due to the Curse every time the character takes damage from some source. For characters of levels 1- 9, this extra damage is 1 point. For characters of levels 10- 19, this extra damage is 2 points. For characters of levels 20 and higher, this extra damage is 3 points.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being hit by the attack Agony Curse.
Bloodlust
Status Effect Tag: Bloodlust

Effect: The character gains +10% to hit and +3 damage to any attack. Character also has a -10% to their defense and spends 1 Magic Point per action taken.
Notes: This Status Effect is granted when a character with the Bloodlust skill kills another character in single combat. Note that this Status Effect can be modified by other skills in the Bloodlust skill tree (Berzerk Frenzy and Fell Berzerker). The duration of the effect is set to 30 Status Ticks every time the character makes a single combat kill while still under the effect of Bloodlust.
Blood Frenzy

Effect: A single instance of Blood Frenzy gives a character a +2 damage bonus, +5% to hit bonus, -5% defense penalty, and -1 soak penalty. While under the effect of Blood Frenzy, the character spends 1 Magic Point per action taken. A character may have more than one instance of Blood Frenzy active at a time, and the effects of these instances stack. A character with 3 Blood Frenzy instances active will have a +6 damage bonus, +15% to hit bonus, -15% defense penalty, and -3 soak penalty. The 1 Magic Point cost per action does not increase with multiple instances of the Status Effect.
Notes: This Status Effect is a result of activating the skill, Blood Frenzy. Note that single- combat kills made while under the effect of Blood Frenzy add further instances of the Status Effect to the character.
Bolster Attack

Defensive Stance

Effect: While this Status Effect is active, any attack that hits the character has a 10% chance of instead being a miss. The Status Event counter is reduced by 1 every time the character takes an action, the character is attacked, and the Action Point tick arrives. Once the Status Event counter reaches 0 the Defensive Stance Status Effect ends.
Notes: This Status Effect comes from activating the Paladin skill Defensive Stance.
Defiler Poison
Status Effect Tag: Defiler Poison
Duration: Until healed. It can persist after death - see below.
Stackable: No
Effect: The character suffers from a demonic poison and as a result takes damage every time they perform an action. Tier 1 characters will take 1 point of damage per action, Tier 2 characters 3 points of damage per action, and Tier 3 characters 6 points of damage per action. This damage cannot be soaked by armor or other defensive measures.
Defiler Poison can be removed through the application of a First Aid Kit, a Healing Herb, a Stygian Bone Leech, through Surgery (with the proper equipment or by drinking a Potion of Healing. Meditation or Absolve Suffering will also cure the person. In all cases the treatment will have its normal effect (recovering Hit Points in the case of Meditation, etc) in addition to removing the poison.
Blood Ice will not cure this demonic affliction.
Death can be an effective, if somewhat harsh, cure. Upon respawn the character will be rid of the Poison. However, dying only cures the effects of poison for demons and for characters under level 10; poison persists in other characters even after the character has died and respawned.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by the Defiler's skill, Poison. It can also be the result of Alchemical Research, but in that case it will only last a finite number of ticks and will never persist after death.
Drained

Effect: Characters who are Drained suffer a -1 penalty to damage and -1 soak.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of losing a status effect via Hex of Sapping, and can also sometimes be gained by striking a character who has a Draining Field. The Drained status itself cannot be removed by Hex of Nullity.
Drunk

Effect: While drunk, you will receive a +1 damage bonus to melee and hand-to-hand attacks, but a -5% penalty to hit on all attacks.

Effect: Characters with the Enervated Status effect suffer a -3 to their soak values, deal 3 less points of damage with their attacks, have a penalty of 10% applied to their attack rolls, and have a 10% penalty applied to their defense.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by the Pariah charged attack Enervate.
Fists of Holy Resolve

Effect: While under this effect, the character gains a +20% to hit bonus with Hand-to-Hand attacks, Deals Holy damage with those attacks and has the option to increase their Hand-to-Hand damage by 1 to 5 points per attack. The character will take unsoakable damage equal to the amount of bonus damage chosen, hit or miss.
Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Redeemed using the skill Fists of Holy Resolve.
Flaming Weapons

Effect: All hand to hand and melee weapon attacks made by the character deal Fire damage instead of their normal damage type. In addition, there is a +1 damage bonus on those attacks.

Flying
Status Effect Tag: Flying
Duration: 30 minutes (potion) or infinite (skill)
Stackable: No
Effect: The character is flying. The character is able to fly over obstacles on the ground, move for half normal AP cost, and is immune to environmental damage such as from lava. The character is immune to hand-to-hand and melee attacks from non-flying characters as well as AoE damage.
The character cannot engage in close combat against non-flying characters, and must land to interact with objects on the ground, such as doors or portals.
At each Game Tick the character will lose this Status Effect and gain the Gliding Status Effect. Moving into a new tile will renew the Flying Status Effect.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of activating Wings, Leathern Wings, or Zephyr Rider; or drinking a Potion of Flying.
Gliding
Status Effect Tag: Gliding
Duration: No more than 15 minutes

Effect: The character is gliding. The character gains this Status Effect after having the Flying Status Effect expire. At the next Action Point tick -- if the character has not renewed their Flying Status Effect -- the character will land at their current location and suffer whatever effects of the terrain they encounter.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of activating Wings or Leathern Wings.
Golem Form

Effect: The character gains a +4 soak bonus to all damage types, a +4 bonus to Hand-to-Hand damage, has doubled AP movement cost, a -10% to defense against all attacks, cannot fly nor walk through water and as long as the character is outside it will regenerate 3 Hit Points and 1 additional Magic Point per Game Tick.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of activating an Elementalist activating the ability Golem Form which is gained from the skill Earth Mastery.
Hidden
Status Effect Tag: Hidden
Duration: Until an Action Point is spent or the character is killed.
Stackable: No
Effect: The character cannot be seen unless they are found with a successful Search action. Characters with certain skills, such as Enhanced Senses, can see all Hidden characters in their location.
The hidden character is removed from the description of the location and not counted as an occupant. Further, a Hidden character gains a +5 damage bonus to their next attack if the target cannot see them, but that attack has a -20% chance to hit (regardless of whether the target can see them). This status effect is lost if the character performs an action that costs an Action Point, drops any item, speaks, or performs an emote. This simply removes the character from hiding and does not announce their presence to anyone in the room.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of successfully hiding. Advanced Hide increases the bonus to +8 damage and decreases the penalty to -10%
Hiemal Armor

Holy Fury

Effect: All attempts made by the character to hide or go invisible will automatically fail whilst this status is in effect.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed successfully using Candle of the Soul or Lamp of Clinging Purity against characters of Evil alignment. Consumption of a Soul Ice while under the effects of Illumination will dispel the Illumination status, but the normal 5 MP gain will not be granted.
Inviolate Form

Invisibility

Effect: A character that is Invisible cannot be detected unless by a character casting Reveal or a Revenant in Bat Form or a Redeemed using the skill Lamp of Clinging Purity. Attacking removes the status effect. If you are on your last tick of Invisible (It's showing Invisible(1) in the status bar) then you will not regenerate MP at the next AP tick.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Void Walker using the skill Invisibility (Or Greater or Master) or from drinking a Potion of (Extended) Invisibility.
Inspired

Stackable: No
Effect: While under the "Inspired" status effect the character gains a +10% to hit bonus to hand-to-hand, melee, thrown, and bow attacks and a +5% to hit bonus to their firearm and spell attacks. This skill does not affect the Redeemed using the skill. If the HP loss from the use of this skill kills the Redeemed, the duration is increased to 35 status ticks.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed activating the skill Words of Inspiration.
Jericho Shout

Minor Poison

Effect: The character suffers from a poison and as a result takes 1 damage every time they perform an action. This damage cannot be soaked by armor or other defensive measures.
Minor Poison will last 150 Action Point ticks, or until the character receives healing of a magical nature. The use of FAKs or Surgery will not cure this afflication, but Meditation or Absolve Suffering will. Another character can perform the healing, or the poisoned character can heal themselves.
Death is also an effective, if somewhat harsh, cure. Upon respawn the character will be rid of the Minor Poison.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by either the Corruptor's skill, Caustic Horns or by being hit with a Ring of Poison or travelling through a Noxious Tunnel
Mask of the Penitent
Status Effect Tag: Mask of the Penitent
Duration: 30 Status Ticks.
Stackable: No
Effect: The character gains a soak bonus equal to Morality divide by 10, 1MO point for each attack dealt to him, a -10% to hit, a -5 to all damage dealt and cannot be inflicted with Agony Curse, Curse of Blood, or Defiler Poison but existing instances are not cured.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed using the skill Mask of the Penitent. The redeemed can end this effect at any time.
Mask of the Martyr
Status Effect Tag: Mask of the Martyr
Duration: 30 Status Ticks.
Stackable: No
Effect: The character is unable to make any attacks and loses 1 MP each time they are attacked (it is possible to go into negative MP with this ability).
Any demon who attacks and misses the character under the influence of Mask of the Martyr gains +2 morality points, hitting gives an additional +2 points, and scoring a killing blow causes an increase of yet another +2 points (this replaces the normal morality shift for the attack) any non-demon who attacks a character under the influence of Mask of the Martyr suffers unsoakable damage equal to the morality shift caused by the attack.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed using the skill Mask of the Martyr. The redeemed can end this effect at any time.
Mask of Vengeance
Status Effect Tag: Mask of Vengeance
Duration: 30 Status Ticks.
Stackable: No
Effect: The character gains a +2 damage bonus to all Hand-to-Hand, Bow and Thrown Weapons attacks. Attacks made against non-evil characters will shift the character's Morality by twice the normal amount.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed using the skill Mask of Vengeance. The redeemed can end this effect at any time.

Plagued with Doubt

Stackable: Yes
Effect: While under the effects of Plagued with Doubt, the minimum amount of damage the character takes from an attack is increased from 1 to (character's Morality / 10), rounded up. The actual attacks do not do more damage -- only the minimum threshold of damage inflicted is increased.
A character with this Status Effect has the option (in their skill pane) to "negate the doubt." This costs 0 Action Points, but the character will lose a number of points of Morality equal to the minimum threshold of damage this Status Effect has inflicted upon them (that is, their Morality divided by 10, rounded up).
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully hit by the skill, Plague of Doubt.
Planar Protection

Duration: 75 Status Ticks

Effect: While under the effect of this Status Effect, the character will not take damage incurred due to being/moving on another plane of existence, nor will they take Infusion damage from moving on to a tile infused by a faction either hostile to the character's faction, or incompatible with the character's morality.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of the use of a Potion of Planar Protection.
Regenerating

Effect: While under the effect of this Status Effect, at each Status Tick event the character will gain 3 Hit Points. The character cannot go over their normal Hit Point maximum through use of this potion.

Status Effect Tag: Retributive Strike

Effect: The character is able to make counter-attacks against an enemy, even without direct player control. While under the effects of Retributive Strike, any time the character is attacked it will provoke a full- strength counter-attack against the aggressor. This counter- attack does not cost the character any AP to use and any successful hits from the counter- strike will not earn the character any Experience Points.
Notes: This Status Effect would have been the result of activating the Paladin skill Retributive Strike, which no longer exists.
Shadowskulking

Duration: Until an Action Point is spent or the character is killed.

Effect: The character cannot be seen unless they are found with a successful Search action. Characters with certain skills, such as Enhanced Senses, can see all Shadowskulking characters in their location.
The skill Shadow Meld improves this Status Effect such that characters under the effect of Shadowskulking can only be found via a Search action. See the skill page for more information.
The Shadowskulking character is removed from the description of the location and not counted as an occupant. Further, a Shadowskulking character gains a +2 damage bonus to their next attack if the target cannot see them.

Shadow of the Bat

They can, however, perform healing on their own self with skills, items, food, or what have you. Aethersprites' healing abilities have no effect on a character under Sorcerer's Might - they do not reduce the duration of this status effect, nor do they increase the Sorcerer's hit points.

Strength

Effect: While under the effect of this Status Effect, the character will deal +2 points of damage with all Hand-to-Hand and Melee attacks. Hand-to-Hand spells will not be affected.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of the use of a Potion of Strength.
Swimming

Duration: No more than 15 minutes
Stackable: No
Effect: The character is swimming. The character gains this Status Effect when they enter a water tile. At the next Action Point tick after entering water the character will lose this Status Effect and gain the Treading Water Status Effect. Moving into a new water tile will renew the Swimming Status Effect.

Effect: While under the effect of this Status Effect the character is able to move through water tiles for a cost of 1 Action Point per tile moved. It also allows characters to move through lava (such as the rivers in Gehenna), although water breathing does not protect against the damage caused by this.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of the use of a Potion of Water-Breathing or the casting of a Water Breathing spell.

Weapon Breaker

Effect: While under the affect of this Status Effect, the character has a base 20% chance to damage a weapon in the inventory of a target upon a successful hit. This base chance can be increased to a maximum of 60% by spending 1 Magic Point per 5% increase.
A weapon that can be repaired (for example, a sword or gun) will suffer the loss of 1 step of quality if hit by this effect. A weapon that is at destroyed quality or that cannot be repaired (for example, improvised weapons such as sledgehammers or golf clubs) will be completely destroyed and immediately removed from the target's inventory.
The chance of any particular weapon being hit by this effect is proportional to its weight. A weapon with a weight of 6 will be twice as likely to be hit as a weapon with a weight of 3.
Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a character activating the Weapon Breaker skill.
